Printing labels

Labeling is an add-on feature within Operandio. If you want to add labeling features to your account, please get in touch.

If you're looking for information on printer setup, connection and label alignment, please see the videos on the How to connect to the Zebra Printer page or view the Printer selection section.

Printing labels

From the main Labels screen, you can tap any label to bring up the printing dialog.

You'll need to be on a kiosk or mobile device to be able to print labels. On a desktop device, you'll still be able to see a preview but you won't be able to print.

Editing fields when printing

For label templates that have date calculations such as Preparation, Ready and Discard times, you'll be able to adjust the preparation date and time (as shown in the example shown below). Any Ready or Discard times will be calculated from this and will be updated in the label preview.

For labels with Dynamic Text (On Print) fields, these will also be shown here where text can be entered into before printing.

Printer selection

If you don't have a printer selected already, you'll see a message saying Please select a printer in the printer dialog:

Tap this to bring up the printer selection screen and your device will scan for available printers. You may see prompts from your device here asking for access to your device location which you should accept.

Operandio supports Bluetooth printer connections as well as direct USB connection for Android devices.

For Bluetooth connections

  1. Ensure your label printer is powered on and your device has Bluetooth turned on.
  2. Tap Refresh in the printer selection screen and wait for the printer to show up in the list of available printers
  3. Select your printer
  4. Once connected, you should see the printer name displayed in the printer dialog with a green checkmark

For USB connections (Android only)

  1. Ensure your label printer is powered on and you have the USB cable handy. If your Android device has a USB-C port you'll also need a dongle or hub between your device and the printer.
  2. Connect the printer to your Android device via the USB cable. Please note: If you're using a Zebra printer and you see a prompt pop up from the Zebra Printer Utility asking for permission to handle the printer here, select Cancel as we'll handle this separately.
  3. Tap Refresh in the printer selection screen and wait for the USB printer to show up in the list of available printers
  4. Select the printer and you may see a pop up asking for permission to let Operandio access the device - tap OK
  5. Once connected, you should see the printer name displayed in the printer dialog with a green checkmark

As mentioned, if you see a prompt requesting the Zebra Printer Setup utility handle the connection, you can cancel this as it's not necessary for printing.

Printing

Once your printer is selected, choose the quantity of labels you want to print and press the large Print labels button.
