Install a sensor with a glass bead vial

Screw the aerial onto the sensor and turn it on by holding the ACT button until the green light appears. Plug the external probe into the sensor, then unscrew the glass bead vial, feed the probe through the base, and seal it back up. Place the vial inside the unit away from airflow and the door. The vial lets the sensor record internal temperatures rather than air temperature.

Why use a glass bead vial

The sensor on its own records the air temperature inside the unit. Air temperature changes quickly every time the door opens, which can trigger alerts that do not reflect what is happening to your stock.

The glass bead vial holds the probe in a material that responds to temperature at a similar rate to food. This gives you a reading that reflects the actual product temperature rather than a brief spike in air temperature.

Step 1: Set up the sensor

  1. Take the sensor out of the box and screw the aerial onto it.

  2. Hold down the ACT button until the green light appears. The sensor is now on.

  3. Plug the external probe into the sensor.

Step 2: Prepare the glass bead vial

  1. Take the glass bead vial out of its bag.

  2. Unscrew the top of the vial and pull it out.

  3. Unscrew the additional part at the bottom.

  4. Feed the external probe through the base and push it all the way through.

  5. Screw the bottom part back on.

  6. Put the vial back into its housing and screw it closed.

Step 3: Install in the unit

Where you place the sensor and vial affects the accuracy of your readings. Keep both away from direct airflow and away from the door, as anything that causes a temperature swing will show up in your data.

You have two options, depending on your unit:

  • Vial inside, sensor outside. Place the glass bead vial inside the unit and feed the probe wire through the seal of the door, with the sensor sitting on the outside.

  • Both inside. Install the sensor and the vial together inside the unit.

Fix both in place with zip ties or double-sided tape if needed.
